Perpetual Calendar
Materials:
- 12" x 24" sheet #12383 and two 5" x 8" sheets #12360 of Adhes-A-MAG® with Adhesive Surface
- Four 3/4" diameter Magnetic Buttons #10075
- Acrylic paint* to coordinate with fabric
- Favorite photo/photos, calendar or greeting card image
- Ruler; rotary cutter*, mat* and acrylic ruler*; typing paper; scissors*; craft glue*; colored markers
- To make the sample shown: (Note: For easy and accurate cutting, use rotary cutter, mat and acrylic ruler on this project.)
Note: If fabric is too thick, the magnetic numbers will not adhere
- Referring to the cutting diagram in the next column, from the 12" x 24" piece of Adhes-A-MAG®, cut a 9" x 18" piece for the calendar. Cut twelve 1 -1/2" x 6" pieces for the months and set aside.
- To cover calendar, peel off the release paper and attach the 11" x 20" piece of fabric to the adhesive side of the 9" x 18" piece of Adhes-A-MAG®. Evenly trim fabric with the Adhes-A-MAG® and set aside.
- For month names, use your computer to print, or hand letter in marker January through December on typing paper and similarly attach to 1 -1/2" x 6" Adhes-A-MAG® pieces. (Optional, you can use press-on or rub-on letters or cut month names from an old calendar.)
- For the numerals, refer to the cutting diagram and from one 5" x 8" piece of Adhes-A-MAG®, using pencil, measure and draw four 1 -1/8" x 8" strips, then draw to divide into twenty-eight 1 -1/8" squares. To maintain the correct polarity*, refer to diagram to roughly write in pencil, the numerals1 through 28 onto squares in the direction shown below. Cut along drawn lines.
- Refer to the cutting diagram and from the second 5" x 8" piece of Adhes-A-MAG®, draw two 1 -1/8" x 8" strips, then draw to divide into fourteen 1 -1/8" squares. Roughly write in pencil the numerals
- 29 through 31 onto squares in the directions shown below. Cut along drawn lines and set aside remainder. Similarly use your computer or hand letter in marker on typing paper the numerals and any special occasion squares. Remembering to maintain the correct polarity, one at a time, remove release paper and attach printed numbers and/or special occasion squares in the same direction as the penciled numerals.
- For the days of the week strip, cut a 3/4" x 8" strip from remaining Adhes-A-MAG®. Similarly, write the days of the week and attach to strip.
- For the base strips, attach the 4" x 10" piece of fabric to the remaining piece of Adhes-A-MAG® and cut into six 1/4" x 8" strips. Beginning 3/4" from the bottom, center and glue one strip horizontally to the calendar. Similarly glue four more strips horizontally onto calendar, leaving 1 -1/2" between each strip. Glue remaining strip 7-1/2" down from top of calendar.
- For picture holders, paint button magnets and let dry.
- To assemble, place calendar background on metal surface so the magnetic attraction is strong.
- Place appropriate month, days of the week strip, numerals and/or special occasion squares onto calendar. (Note: If the magnetic numbers don't adhere, use a small strip of double stick tape to hold the numbers to the calendar.) Secure photo to calendar using button magnets.
ADDITIONAL DECORATING IDEAS:
- Use Adhes-A-MAG® with Adhesive Surface to make a furry bear body with felt or plush felt. You can glue on mini curly hair, wiggle eyes and felt cheeks and mouth.
Polarity is the direction of the magnetism and all pieces should be cut exactly as shown in the diagrams so that the pieces don\'t "resist" each other when lined up side-by-side.
